A trust to general transfer lets you move funds out of several client trust ledgers at once, instead of processing each one individually. You select the trust ledgers, generate the EFT requisitions in bulk, then process the transfer through to a general account receipt you can allocate against outstanding invoices. The video above walks through the full process — the steps below are a quick written reference for the same flow.
Select the trust ledgers for the bulk transfer
Start from the trust requisition list and open the bulk transfer screen.
- Go to Trust > Requisitions to see the existing trust requisitions for reference.
- Open Trust Bulk Transfer or Bulk by Invoice — whichever method you prefer.
- A table loads showing every client trust ledger eligible for transfer, with each ledger’s current trust balance and a checkbox on the left.
- Tick the checkbox next to each trust ledger you want to include in this batch. The running total updates as you go.
Create the bulk EFT requisition
- Once every ledger you need is ticked, click Generate EFT Requisition, and then confirm.
- Law App will create one EFT requisition containing all items you have just selected, and this can be located in the Trust Requisition list.
Review the generated requisition
The requisition generated by the bulk run behaves like any other trust requisition — you can open it to check the detail, and print it if you need a signed record before processing.
- Open the newly created requisitions from the Trust Requisition list to check the client, matter and amount are correct.
- If you need a paper or PDF record for signing, click Print to generate the Trust EFT Requisition document, which lists the transaction details with a signatory line.
Process the transfer to general account
Processing the requisition is what actually moves the money — it generates the trust payment and the matching general account receipt in one action.
- From the requisition, click the Process and Transfer action.
- In the dialog that opens, choose the Trust account the funds are coming from and confirm the reference.
- Click Save to process the transfer. The requisition’s status updates to show it’s been processed.
Review the trust payment and general receipt
Processing the transfer creates two records you can use to trace the funds: a trust payment on the trust side, and a receipt on the general account side.
- Check Trust > Trust Payments for the new trust payment record, showing the transfer against the ledger(s) you processed.
- Check General Receipts on the general account side for the matching receipt, generated automatically from the transfer.
- Open the receipt — the transferred amount appears as a line ready to allocate.
Allocate the receipt to outstanding invoices
The last step is applying the transferred funds against the invoice(s) they were meant to cover.
- On the receipt, click Allocate next to the transferred line.
- In the outstanding invoices dialog, tick the invoice(s) to allocate this amount against, and confirm the amount.
- Click Save. The receipt’s outstanding balance updates to reflect the allocation.
