Law App Release Notes – Mid October 2026: What’s New

Contents

⏱️ Auto Time, now for every firm New

Auto Time is out of Beta and available to every firm. It records the time you spend working in Law App, against the matter you are in, so you can turn it into timesheets without reconstructing your day. It now works across Law App in your browser and in the Outlook and Word add-ins.

Time spent with no matter open is kept as unassigned time, along with the pages where it was spent, and that detail carries across when you assign it to a matter. You can add a private note to an unassigned block to remind yourself what it was for. Your firm sets whether time is recorded when no matter is open, and each person can change this for themselves.

If you have a timer running in your browser and another in the Outlook or Word add-in at the same time, the timeline now shows the overlap, so you can see where time has been recorded twice.

For step-by-step instructions, see How to use Auto Time in Law App.

    🧾 Invoice styles New Beta

Invoices have a new set of styles, found in the Template list under Templates (BETA). Your existing layouts are still there under Older templates.

    • Six styles. Tax Invoice, Estimate, Discount / But Say, Summary and Advices. Credit notes print as a Credit Note, and that style only appears for credit notes and reversed invoices.
    • Choose what the bill shows. A panel beside the preview lets you choose itemisation, the cost breakdown, which categories and columns appear, notes, and the list of earlier unpaid invoices. Quick presets cover the common layouts in one click.
    • Your defaults. Use Set as default for me to keep your choices for your next bill, or Reset to firm default to go back to the firm’s settings. Firm defaults and the styles your firm offers are set on the Billing settings page.
    • Trust statement. When a matter has trust activity, a trust statement can go with the bill as a separate PDF. If a file has more than one trust account, choose which one to transfer from, and the attached ledger shows that account only.
    • Notification of Rights. The rights now print once, on their own page at the end of every Tax Invoice, Discount bill and Credit Note. Estimates do not include them.
    • Credit notes. A new Credit Note button lets you issue a credit note against a finalised invoice.
    • Every bill you send is kept. Each time you print, save, email or download a bill, a copy is stored. When you reprint, you can choose the latest copy, an earlier one, or print the bill fresh from the invoice as it is now. When Overdue Reminder Notices is released, firms can choose to send the tax invoice with each reminder as well as the statement of account. The stored copy is what will be attached, so the invoice your client receives with a reminder matches the one you originally sent.

📧 Unsaved Emails, now open to every firm Improved Beta

The Unsaved Emails view under Documents is now available to every firm.

    • More than one mailbox. If you have access to shared mailboxes, such as support@ or a partner’s inbox, switch between them from the Mailbox dropdown.
    • Clearer matching. Each email now says how it was matched: Already on file, Matched, Same conversation, Suggested, Chosen by you or Not matched. Hover over a tag to see why.
    • Rename before saving. Double-click the subject to give the document a better name before you save it.
    • Easier file picking. The file list shows the client’s name and email under each matter, and every folder you can normally save to is available.
    • Sign in your way. You can keep signing in with your own Microsoft login, or once your firm’s Microsoft 365 connection is set up (see below), choose Law App connection to save emails without signing in to Microsoft.
    • Keyboard shortcuts. Click a row, then press S to save, U to use the suggested file, P to preview, or I to ignore. The keyboard button on the page lists them all.

🔗 Microsoft 365 firm connection New

Your firm’s Microsoft 365 administrator can now grant Law App access once, so staff do not need to sign in to Outlook separately inside Law App. In Unsaved Emails, staff can choose Law App connection to use it, or keep using their own Microsoft login if they prefer. The same connection will also be used by Outlook appointments and by automatic sending of Overdue Reminder Notices when they are released. Your IT administrator will need to set it up, and we will send them a step-by-step guide. Contact support to get started.

    📊 Marketing Source Report New

A new report under Reports > Marketing shows which marketing sources bring in your clients, files and fee income, and who your best referrers are. It uses what you already record on each contact’s Marketing tab, so there is nothing new to fill in. Filter by date range, source or referrer, and choose from four views: by source, by referrer, new clients and new files. Export to PDF, Word or CSV from the usual report toolbar.

📋 AUSTRAC onboarding form templates New

The eight AUSTRAC customer onboarding forms are now available as ready-made Intake templates. They cover individuals and sole traders, companies and partnerships, trusts and government bodies, each in a conveyancing and a legal services version. In Intake > Forms > New Form, choose Use a Law App template, pick one, and the form opens with every question and identity check in place. Save it as your own form, adjust anything you like, and share your own link. Answers your client gives flow onto their Identity and AML tab when you accept the enquiry.

    🔍 Audit log Improved

The audit log now opens on the last 7 days, newest first, so it loads much faster. A new Changes column summarises each edit, and the eye button shows a before and after view with the changes highlighted and names instead of codes. Changes to firm settings now appear in the audit log too.

    🧾 Accounts and reporting

    • Aged Debtors reports. Choose whether to show gross amounts, GST amounts, or both. Gross stays the default.
    • General Receipts from a file. The receipt screen now has a toolbar, an Allocate button on each line, and stays open after saving so you can allocate, print or attach without reopening it. The red Save button now reads Save as draft.
    • Issued by. General Payments and General Receipts now record who issued them, and the name can be shown on the printouts.

    📄 Templates and documents

    • Uploading templates. Uploading a template now asks for its document type, whether it is header and footer compatible, and the default folder that documents created from it are filed in.
    • Properties. The document type can now be edited in Properties on any document, and templates also show their header and footer setting and default folder, so existing templates can be updated without uploading them again.

    🏠 Settlement Calculator

The old Settlement Calculator will be retired soon, so we encourage everyone to start using the new settlement calculator now. The old Settlement Calculator tab now shows a banner as a reminder, with an Open new version button that takes you straight to the new settlement page for that file.

Switching over now gives you time to get familiar with the new calculator before the old one is removed. If anything does not look right, or something you rely on is missing, please let us know at support@lawsupport.com.au. Your feedback helps us make sure the new calculator works the way your firm needs it to.

    🔭 Coming soon

Outlook appointments. Appointments on a file will sync both ways with your Outlook calendar. Book, move or cancel an appointment in Law App or in Outlook and the other follows, with attendee replies showing on each appointment so you can see at a glance who has accepted. It also brings a refreshed appointment form with location suggestions, an attendee picker, a message for the Outlook invite, and internal notes that never leave Law App.

Overdue Reminder Notices. Law App will find overdue invoices, draft a reminder email in your firm’s name with a statement of account attached, and keep a record of exactly what was sent, with a daily review queue so someone checks each reminder before it goes. Overdue Reminder Notices is currently in Beta, so if you would like early access, please get in touch with support@lawsupport.com.au.

Connect your own AI. Connect your firm’s own Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot to Law App. More details when it is released.

AI file overview. An AI tab on each file summarising its documents, what is due and what has changed since you last looked.
