Law App Release Notes — May 2026
We don’t wait for a once-a-year update. May is another month of Law App quietly getting better.
Everything below is already in your Law App. There’s nothing to install and no action required — it’s just there. We ship continuously, so improvements land in the background while you get on with running your practice.
A big month for document management, accounting and trust — and the AI assistant is now in your hands in beta. Use the contents menu to jump to a section, or read straight through for everything new and improved in this May 2026 Law App release.
📁 Document management (Docs V2)
Docs V2 — the file-explorer document system — keeps maturing. This month it gets faster, smarter about copies and versions, and more reliable across the board.
Select multiple documents and choose Quick Attach to Email to download a ready-to-send Outlook email with everything already attached. The subject line includes your file reference automatically, so when you send it the email saves straight back to the matter.
Full version history and upload are now available in Docs V2 — hover over a document and click the versions button. Versions are created correctly when you upload, and version numbers display accurately.
New documents and copies are editable immediately, and the document edit window is now configurable per firm.
Copy and paste now creates a genuine, separate copy — editing the copy no longer affects the original. Pasting into the same folder names the copy with ” – Copy” so it’s clear which is which.
Moving a document between folders now keeps its original date instead of resetting it.
Switch between exact and fuzzy matching when searching documents — particularly useful on older files where document naming isn’t consistent.
Files with large numbers of documents (500+) now open and navigate noticeably faster.
File Type folders now appear under Document, with a clearer UI showing which folder belongs to which file type. Add top-level folders, sub folders and file-type folders from Folder Setup V2, and add common folders directly under the Document root via Admin → Folder Setup V2 → Template Folders. Folder logic inside Docs V2 has been improved throughout.
Folder selections, view preferences and font size are now remembered between sessions.
Sortable Email From and Email To columns have been added to the document list.
Document dates now show the time in 12-hour format (e.g. 24/04/26 2:30 pm).
A confirmation prompt now appears before sending a document to trash, and Delete Forever in Trash permanently removes it.
Document sharing with external parties has been fixed.
Documents attached to emails now keep the same name shown in Law App.
Merged PDFs now follow the order you select, with added validation on the merge form.
Created and Last Modified dates can now be edited in document properties.
📧 Outlook integration
The Outlook add-in now automatically selects your Mail/Email folder when saving.
Folder lists in the add-in, Move To and Copy To now consistently show all the right folders.
The Auto Save Emails dashboard has been fixed, with a new permission button on both the add-in and the dashboard.
💰 Accounting & banking
Save payments, receipts and supplier invoices as reusable templates, then create new entries with New from Template on the Supplier Invoice, Payment and Receipt buttons. Variable fields — file number, description, reference, contact — are cleared on generation so each entry starts fresh, with an option to auto-fill the file number across all lines. Manage everything from a dedicated template list.
Banking transfers can now be created, edited and removed, with correct ledger posting throughout. Transfers appear in the bank reconciliation for both accounts involved, and transfer numbering now increments correctly.
Bank statement import (CSV and OFX) now has smarter duplicate detection — legitimate same-day, same-amount transactions import within a batch, while re-imports of the same file are rejected.
Ongoing reliability improvements to automatic bank feed syncing, so more transactions arrive on their own.
New transactions created during reconciliation now default to EFT, and trust adjustments and amounts are included in bank reconciliation statement snapshots.
Descriptions now autocomplete across payments, receipts and requisitions, grouped by category (supplier invoice, debtor invoice, payment, receipt, contact, file). Manage your description list from the General menu.
Filter supplier and debtor invoices, payments and receipts by gross amount range using the Advanced Filter.
Payments now post to the GL of the selected bank account, so firms with separate trust, general and operating accounts see accurate postings across all of them.
The balance sheet now shows a total asset amount.
A new Write Off tab in file accounting, write-offs can now be removed, and the file search within write-offs has been fixed.
The receipts grid column “Outstanding” is now “Unallocated” for clarity.
Fixed an issue where InfoTrack supplier invoices could occasionally duplicate when search results were returned.
🏦 Trust accounting
Identify trust balances with no recent activity, so nothing sits unattended longer than it should.
A dedicated report for trust funds held under controlled money arrangements — clean and ready for compliance and audit.
The Safe Custody Register report now includes the location of each item.
A new adjustment list lets you edit and remove trust adjustments, with improved numbering using a TA prefix.
The overdraw warning no longer appears before an amount is entered, and designated files (e.g. statutory deposit files) can be excluded from overdraw protection via firm settings.
A new “+” button on the trust details page lets you add another trust receipt, payment or requisition without leaving the screen.
The client trust report now shows trust category and bank account name, with matching report template placeholders.
🧾 Billing
The billing prep report is now filterable by employee and file, shows unbilled status, and starts each employee on a new page.
Payment disbursement descriptions and transaction dates now pull through to bills, and descriptions show on the bill line.
Outstanding disbursement amounts on the file financials page have been corrected, and the disbursement outstanding report now includes only disbursement items.
🏡 Conveyancing & settlements
Quickly find any of around 500 councils, defaulting to your firm’s state with your recent councils pinned to the top.
Adjustment reasons on the settlement screen now autocomplete from your previous entries.
New fields on the settlement statement: grand adjustments total, seller and purchaser adjustment totals, and grand adjusted price.
Volume and folio have been added to property lots.
The settlement statement report now shows “adjustment paid by” correctly.
The council rates calculation correctly returns zero when rates are marked not required.
🤖 AI assistant — now in beta
It’s no longer coming. It’s here, in beta.
The Law App AI assistant is now in your hands as a beta. It’s not a chatbot bolted on the side — it’s built into Law App and connected to your files, time entries and file notes, so it works the way your practice actually works.
This month it gets noticeably more capable: smoother voice dictation, multiple entries in a single request, and the ability to update file details directly. If you’d like to be part of the beta, reply to your release email and we’ll get you set up.
Voice dictation now converts speech into properly formatted file notes and time entries, with a larger input area and more reliable long dictation sessions.
The assistant can add multiple time entries and file notes in a single request, with a clearer distinction between the two.
The assistant can now update file details, including conveyancing details, from a plain instruction.
Mark a file as confidential and the AI assistant won’t access it — for matters that shouldn’t be in scope for AI at all.
📊 Reports & audit
New audit trail reports cover file changes, contact changes and trust reversals — a clear record of who changed what, and when.
All generated PDFs now include the print date and time in the footer.
The Professional Fees report title now updates based on the selected view.
The General Ledger List and General Payment reports have been updated.
Cost Type changes are now captured in the audit log.
📄 Document templates
Templates without a configured header or footer now generate correctly — the document loads and you can add headers or footers manually.
Spacing between merge fields is now preserved automatically during generation.
File relationship merge fields now handle dates, checkboxes and list values correctly.
🗂️ Contacts & files
Contact details now show friendly warnings before saving instead of errors, BSB accepts common formats (062000, 062-000, 062 000), and field lengths are enforced as you type.
Preferred and primary contact details are now used correctly when generating emails and documents.
A new pop-up editor for file relationships shows all fields in one place.
Accidentally added a second contact on a new file? It can now be removed easily.
The contact mailing envelope has been fixed, and contact categories now save correctly.
Immigration has been added as a file type.
✨ General improvements
Today’s calendar now appears on the home page, so the day ahead is the first thing you see.
Help is now available from the top bar, and the support website is embedded directly on the Help page.
Timesheet notes no longer clear when switching files.
Searching with “&” in names (e.g. A & K) now works as expected.
Dark mode colour fixes and top bar layout improvements throughout.
The Quick Time and Quick Note sidebar icons now align with the other menu items.
If a document action fails, you’ll now see a clearer error dialog with an Email Support button.
Log In Again now reliably takes you to the login page.
