Law App Release Notes — April 2026
Already the most modern practice management platform in the market. Updated anyway.
Everything below is already in your Law App. There’s nothing to install and no action required — it’s just there. We ship continuously, so improvements land in the background while you get on with running your practice.
Use the contents menu to jump to a section, or read straight through for everything new and improved in this April 2026 Law App release.
Built to last, built to stay current
Most legal software gets built once and left — the interface you use in year ten looks the same as it did in year one, because updating it is hard, expensive, and easy to put off. That’s not how we work.
Staying on the latest technology isn’t optional for us. It’s how we keep Law App fast, secure, and genuinely modern — not just today, but for the long term.
🖥️ The updated interface
The entire platform has been rebuilt on the latest technology — modern foundations that deliver real, everyday differences. Not a refresh; the kind of update that makes everything feel faster, more familiar, and easier to hand to a new staff member on day one.
Pages load faster and reports generate in less time. Large lists scroll and respond instantly because only what’s on screen loads at once.
The most-used actions now take fewer steps — less time navigating, more time doing, across every matter.
The layout follows conventions people already know, so new staff find their way around without a guided tour. Onboarding a paralegal or receptionist no longer means a day of hand-holding.
Column widths, sort orders, view modes, dark or light, density — preferences are saved per user and remembered across every session.
Every button, input, and action behaves the same way everywhere in the application. Learn it once and it works everywhere.
Desktop, laptop, or tablet — the interface responds properly to every screen size, so Law App is usable wherever you are.
Resize columns and panes to suit how you work. Your preferences are saved and applied every time you return.
📁 Document management
Law App includes an ever-improving document management system built the way a law firm actually works — file-explorer style, fast, and intuitive from day one. No SharePoint setup, no permissions nightmares, no syncing issues. Just your documents, organised by matter and accessible immediately.
Every matter opens with the same folder structure, configured for your firm and practice areas. When a solicitor goes on leave and someone else picks up the file, the folders are exactly where they expect them.
Firm-wide folders that apply to every matter, matter-type folders tailored to conveyancing, litigation or family law, and file-specific folders for individual matters. Every new file opens with the right structure already in place.
Add a pinned note to any matter that appears front and centre when the file opens. Cover for a colleague without a handover meeting, or pick up a file after two weeks away without rereading the full history.
Merge multiple documents into a single PDF, reorder pages before merging, and convert any document to PDF in one click — without leaving Law App.
Generate a secure share link for any document or specific version. Clients, barristers, and other solicitors get exactly what they need, and you keep full control of what’s shared and when.
Open and review documents with tracked changes directly in Law App — see what’s changed, accept or reject, and save back without opening a separate application.
Mark documents as favourites to pin them for instant access. The documents you return to constantly are always at hand.
Double-click or right-click, type, done. Rename any document or folder directly in the file explorer without losing your flow.
Drag documents in from your desktop or move them between folders within a matter. Fast, reliable, and exactly what you’d expect.
Deleted documents go to the recycle bin first. Restore in a single click, or permanently delete when you’re certain.
Document type, description, and folder can now be edited directly in the file explorer without opening the document.
Toggle between exact and fuzzy search in the document explorer — particularly useful in files built up over time where document naming varies.
Every document type now has its own icon and colour in the file explorer. Scan a folder and know what’s in it without opening a thing.
Large scans, video evidence, and bundled documents upload without issue.
The Outlook add-in captures more emails automatically with every sweep — less manual saving and a more complete matter record.
🧾 Billing & time
Select multiple files and generate invoices in a single batch. Review drafts across all selected matters, make adjustments, then process everything in one action.
Invoices now show previous outstanding balance, current amount payable, and total outstanding — so clients know exactly where they stand. Fewer queries, faster payments.
Payments, receipts, trust transactions, and requisitions now support autocomplete from a firm-wide central list — consistent descriptions every time, without typing them from scratch.
The billing prep report now shows whether solicitors have finalised their time on each file, so bookkeepers can see the full picture without opening a single matter.
A dedicated report for trust funds held under controlled money arrangements — clean, clear, and ready for compliance and audit.
Written-off items now have their own tab with a print button, an updated date-range filter, and an accurate summary.
The rate items field on timesheets is now a searchable combo box. Type to filter, tab to select, or browse — faster for experienced users, easier for new ones.
Add custom remittance details and legal rights content to invoice templates — configured once in settings, applied automatically to every invoice.
📊 Reports
The reports area is now a proper dashboard — colour-coded by category, with a search bar and badges showing which reports are new or recently updated. Finding what you need takes seconds.
Star any report and it pins to the top of your list, saved per user. The reports you run every day are there the moment you open the page.
Generate a report and save it as a PDF to the file in one step — no downloading, no manual filing. Available for Debtor Statements, File Outstanding, File Accounting, Settlement Statements, Receipts, File Notes, and Invoices, and it saves to the right folder automatically.
Outstanding debtors broken down by solicitor — know exactly where aged debt sits and who’s responsible, without pulling it together manually.
A clear view of how much unbilled work in progress sits with each fee earner. Spot bottlenecks before they become billing problems.
A snapshot of all active matters across the firm — useful for principals and practice managers who want a quick view of what’s open and with whom.
A structured view of all general ledger account activity — useful for reconciliation, audit preparation, and financial review.
Generate a clean matter summary page from any file — ideal as a quick reference sheet or for the front of a physical file.
Improved grouping, filtering, and layout throughout — faster to navigate and easier to read.
Restored to the original format and extended with cash-basis and accrual-basis filter options, all tax categories shown by default, and automatic refresh of ledger postings.
🏦 Trust accounting
Opening and closing balances are now included, with a cleaner layout and corrected display for reversed receipts.
Your firm’s bank account name now appears automatically across all trust reports — EFT Requisition, Trust Account Matters, Receipt List, Withdrawal List, and more. No more entering it manually or leaving it blank.
PEXA and QRO are now available fund types in trust payments, with document numbers generated automatically on selection — fewer manual steps at settlement.
📄 Documents & templates
We’ve built a tool that generates Law App document templates automatically — a complete firm template library across correspondence, court documents, settlement statements, and more, in days rather than weeks. If you’ve been waiting on templates or want to expand what you have, get in touch.
When a file has multiple parties of the same type — two buyers, two vendors, multiple representatives — you now choose exactly who to use when generating a document. The right name on the right document, every time.
Record an ‘Also Known As’ name on any contact and use it as a merge field in templates, so you can generate correspondence using the name a client is actually known by.
Spacing between merge fields was occasionally lost during generation. Law App now detects and corrects this automatically, so generated documents come out right the first time.
A second voice session now adds to existing content rather than replacing it, and the timeout has been extended so pauses don’t cut the recording short.
Email generation has been upgraded to native Outlook Template files (OFT) alongside MSG and EML — richer and more reliable across every email workflow.
Select multiple documents from the file explorer and attach them to an email in a single action. The matter identifier is added to the subject automatically so replies save to the right file.
💰 Accounting & reconciliation
The general ledger and trial-balance report now post payments against the GL of each specific bank account. Firms with separate trust, general, and operating accounts see accurate postings across all of them.
Fiskil now syncs hourly and looks back three days for missed transactions — significantly more transactions captured automatically, with less manual reconciliation.
Transactions from bank feeds import correctly and consistently, matches process cleanly, and figures balance accurately.
InfoTrack supplier invoices were occasionally created more than once when searches spanned multiple sessions. Identified and resolved.
Duplicate file codes are now caught at the point of saving — before they cause issues anywhere else in the system.
🏡 Settlement
The preview now correctly reflects items marked as ‘not required’ and calculates adjustments and days accurately. What you see is what generates.
Figures now use banking rounding throughout, matching the back end exactly — no more unexplained cent differences between the statement and the ledger.
🗂️ Files & contacts
Address fields across Law App use Google address lookup. Type a few characters and select the right address — unit addresses and standalone properties populate correctly without manual correction.
All upcoming matter dates across the firm in one view, colour-coded by priority. A quick scan replaces a manual trawl through the date list.
Due dates now calculate correctly across every scenario — offset days, trigger dates, and unfilled critical dates. For practices where missing a date isn’t an option, this matters.
The file code now appears in the browser tab title. With multiple matters open, you can see which is which at a glance without clicking through each tab.
Files that aren’t going ahead can now be formally flagged with a reason and a date — keeping your active matter list clean and creating a clear record for future reference.
Contacts can be assigned a category, configurable per firm. Segment by client type, referrer, or any classification relevant to how your practice works.
Contact search now works across names, phone numbers, mobile numbers, and email addresses — find who you need even when you only have a number.
Safe custody now has a dedicated search across the full register. Contact records show at a glance whether a contact holds safe custody items or has a VOI on file — no more opening each related contact to check.
Staff can set their own preferences for how Law App behaves when they open a file. Small settings, real time saved every day.
Mark any file as confidential to restrict access. You control exactly which staff members can view sensitive matters — useful for instructions that shouldn’t be firm-wide.
📧 Outlook add-in
The add-in now detects when an email has already been saved to Law App — preventing duplicates across shared mailboxes and group recipients.
The add-in now supports multiple logins — useful for staff who work across more than one mailbox or account.
A credential test button has been added to InfoTrack settings so you can verify your connection is working before you need it.
🎓 Training & support
A growing library of short training videos is now available for your team — trust payments and receipts, bank reconciliation, contacts, opening a file, timesheets, and more. Available any time a new staff member needs them.
🤖 Artificial intelligence — coming to Law App
This is the one worth watching.
Law App AI is coming — not a chatbot bolted on the side, and not a generic tool that doesn’t know what a matter is. This is AI built into the fabric of Law App, connected to your files, contacts, time entries, documents, and how your firm actually works.
The groundwork has been laid, and what’s built on top of it is significant. More detail soon. If you’d like to be among the first to see it, reply to your release email and we’ll add you to the list.
Describe the work done on a matter in a single voice instruction, and Law App writes the file note and creates the time entry for billing — automatically. No typing, no double-handling.
Upload a conveyancing contract and Law App reads it, creates the contacts, and opens the file — ready to work from the moment you hit upload. No re-keying, no manual setup.
Already live. Our template-writing tool generates Law App document templates automatically — full suites across every matter type, in days rather than weeks. Get in touch if you’d like to know more.
AML functionality — anti-money-laundering tools built directly into your matter and client workflow. A new URL — Law App is moving to its permanent home at app.lawsupport.com.au. We’ll be in touch before anything changes; no action is needed from you yet.
