Law App Release Notes — August 2026
Rebuilt WA, VIC and QLD settlement statements, confidential files, and three brand-new Beta features — Client Intake, Document Review and a Customisable Dashboard.
Everything below is already in your Law App. There’s nothing to install and no action required — it’s just there. We ship continuously, so improvements land in the background while you get on with running your practice.
August’s headline release is a complete rebuild of the settlement experience for WA, VIC and QLD conveyancing files. Alongside that: files can now be marked confidential, a new Safe Custody search sits under Contacts, a full month of NSW compliance and trust accounting work, and three brand-new areas of Law App — Client Intake & Document Collection, Document Review and a Customisable Dashboard — are all live today in Beta. Use the contents menu to jump to a section, or read straight through for everything new in this August 2026 Law App release.
🏠 Refreshed: Settlement Statements — WA, VIC & QLD
The settlement experience, completely rebuilt — one shared engine, three state-specific calculators.
The settlement tabs have been refreshed from the ground up — modernised, streamlined and made genuinely easier to use — with a dedicated calculator for each state, built around the way conveyancing actually works in Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland. Rather than one generic screen trying to cover every jurisdiction, each state now uses the right terminology, the right adjustments and the right statement layout — and because all three share a single calculation engine behind the scenes, the on-screen figures, the printed statement and the saved record always agree.
A modern client trust ledger with clear Preliminary/Final and Purchase/Sale toggles, fees and outlays that pre-fill from your firm’s standard disbursements, and handy shortcuts like seeding duty straight from the purchase price. Every figure is laid out so it’s easy to see exactly what’s making up the settlement.
A full Statement of Adjustments designed for Victorian settlements — council rates, land tax, per-lot Owners Corporation charges, water and service charges, and GST — all handled in a clean, logical layout that’s simple to complete.
The same modern, easy-to-use layout with Queensland wording throughout — Seller and Buyer, Body Corporate, and water usage worked out from meter readings — so it reads exactly the way a Queensland matter should.
The whole experience has had a visual refresh: a cleaner layout, clearer figures, and statements that are simpler to read and to check. Your firm’s logo now prints on the WA, VIC and QLD statements, and the printed and on-screen versions match exactly.
🔒 New: Confidential Files
Files can now be marked confidential with a named access list. Anyone not on the list can’t open the file anywhere in the app — details, documents, financials, key dates, contacts or question sheets — and it’s hidden from every file search, picker, dropdown and the Outlook add-in, with a lock screen if they try to open it. People with access see the file as normal with a small “Confidential” badge.
🔍 New: Safe Custody search
A new Safe Custody search — found under Contacts in the left menu — lets you look up any safe custody packet or item across the whole firm without having to open the relevant contact first, so finding a deed, will or document is far quicker.
💰 NSW compliance & trust accounting
An NSW Statutory Deposit calculator, and a Controlled Money Movements Record (with interest, bank address and term/duration fields).
Cancelled trust cheques and receipts now appear in the Cash Book and its reports, shown as nil and prefixed “Cancelled -“, and excluded from balance calculations.
A centrally managed, per-state public holiday table (242 holidays covering 2025–2030) that firms can edit and import. Trust clearance and statutory-deposit dates now adjust automatically for public holidays and business days.
The “Remove” option is retained only for draft transactions, with a sequence warning on others. Trust payments now require the bank account and date paid before saving, so incomplete payments can’t be entered, and reversals prompt to confirm the reversal date.
The General and Trust Bank Reconciliation Summary was refactored so unbanked and unpresented receipts now carry forward accurately to the following month. A summary can be re-computed without deleting it, and completed periods are protected — a July receipt can’t be cancelled in August once July’s reconciliation is done.
🧾 Office costs vs disbursements
Cost types are now explicitly labelled “office cost” or “disbursement” rather than inferred from whether a GL code is present, so each item is classified consistently and appears in the right list. The GL selection was also hidden from Office Cost settings, with Code and Name made mandatory.
📊 Billing, general ledger & reporting
Invoices can now include the file’s trust account statement when there’s trust activity.
BAS Cash and Accrual reports gained multi-select tax types (defaulting to Standard and Zero rate) and BAS-code filters (G1, G2, G3, G10, G11, 1A, 1B).
Added Total Opening and Total Closing Balance placeholders, and fixed incorrect footer totals.
A blank discount or surcharge amount is now safely treated as zero across invoices, payments and write-offs, so the entry saves cleanly. General payments and receipts are also now flagged as reconciled automatically once reconciled.
Bank feed dates now use the execution date when it differs from the posting date by more than two days, keeping the raw bank data as evidence, and Fiskil duplicate transactions are cleared on sync.
🖥️ Everyday usability
Rows per page, showing/hiding columns and column widths now persist per user across visits, including on the Contacts grid.
File Notes is now its own tab, the Documents dropdown no longer shows duplicate v1/v2 entries, and a small “New version (v2)” switch sits in the tab bar.
The theme and style icons are replaced by a single gear that opens all your personal preferences, and your theme/style now save to your account so they follow you to any computer.
A new entry now uses the employee’s default rate — the setting that previously didn’t work — rather than copying the top row.
You can now choose where InfoTrack search documents are saved, with a firm-wide default and a per-file override.
Pausing the timesheet clock now calculates the amount automatically, and saved entries remain visible whether or not they’re finalised. Plus a range of invoice, trust cashbook and reporting refinements, and improved performance in invoice generation.
📄 Document templates & generated emails
Unanswered questions inside IF statements no longer print raw question code into a document — they simply insert nothing. The old advice to keep formatted Result numbers between 1 and 9 no longer applies; use any unique numbering.
Emails generated from templates now leave an unresolved merge field blank rather than printing placeholder text into the To line or body, and if your login isn’t linked to an employee, template previews explain exactly how to resolve it.
Invoice notes now render cleanly, and trust transaction lines pick up the description automatically as the reason on each line — no re-typing the same text.
🚀 New this month, in Beta
We’re also introducing several brand-new areas of Law App, available to your firm from today. Each is marked Beta — they are fully available to use, and we’ll keep refining them, so we’d genuinely welcome your feedback.
📥 Client Intake & Document Collection Beta
A complete way to take on new enquiries and collect documents from clients online — with nothing touching your live data until you approve it.
Custom questions, required fields, conditional show/hide, and document upload. Share by link or embed on your firm’s website, and brand each form with your own logo, font and colours.
Classify each as New business, Marketing, Not proceeding or Spam; nothing is created in Law App until you accept it, and the accept flow proposes the contacts and matter for you to confirm, with duplicate detection so existing contacts are linked, not recreated.
Send a secure, expiring link with an item-by-item checklist and reminders. Every upload is quarantined and virus-scanned before you promote it into the matter.
Send a form to a client about a matter they’re already on, with their answers coming back for side-by-side review before being applied to the file.
✅ Document Review Beta
A simple, structured way to send documents to colleagues for review and keep track of what’s outstanding.
Straight from the Documents menu, with a note, a priority and an optional due date.
What you’ve sent out, what’s been flagged to you, what needs your action, and what was recently completed.
Every review carries a chat-style thread that lives against the document, so the conversation stays with the file rather than scattered across email.
Finishing a review records a plain “what happens next” decision — send to client, changes required, escalate, hold for signing and more — and these options are yours to rename and reorder.
Your open reviews also appear in My Due Tasks and each file’s Tasks tab, with a count on the sidebar so nothing waiting on you gets missed.
🧩 Customisable Dashboard Beta
Your Law App home page can now be arranged to suit exactly how you work.
Stat tiles (files, documents, time, invoices), one-click shortcuts to any page or link, quick file and document search, key dates as a list or calendar, and quick reports.
Drag tiles to reorder, resize them, and add or remove them from a gallery. One click resets your dashboard back to your default at any time.
Everyone starts on a default layout for their role, and your firm can set its own standard layout per position so new staff land on exactly what you want them to see.
Once you customise your dashboard, the previous Overview page is not retained. A short guided tour runs on your first visit and can be replayed any time from the help icon.
