Your letterhead is applied to every letter generated from Law App. Getting the format right before go-live means every document your firm produces will look exactly the way you intend.
File format
Submit your letterhead as a Microsoft Word .docx file. No other format is accepted — PDF, .doc, or image-only files are not compatible with the document generation system.
The Word document you submit becomes the base template that Law App applies to letters. It should contain nothing in the body of the document — no sample text, no placeholder content, no body formatting. The body must be completely empty. Everything goes in the header and footer only.
When Law App applies your letterhead to a letter template, it overwrites the header and footer of that template entirely. This means anything you want on every letter — page numbers, “Page X of Y”, confidentiality footers, firm details — must live in the letterhead itself, not in individual letter templates.
What goes in the header and footer
All of your letterhead content must sit inside the Word header or footer areas:
- Firm logo
- Firm name, address, phone, email, website
- ABN or other registration details
- Page numbering (e.g. “Page 1 of 2”) — use Word’s built-in page number fields
- Confidentiality notices or footers
- Any other element that should appear on every letter page
If it belongs on every letter, it belongs in the letterhead. Do not rely on individual letter templates to carry these elements — they will be replaced.
Page numbering
Page numbering works in letterheads. Use Word’s built-in page number fields (Insert → Page Number) placed in the header or footer. “Page X of Y” style numbering is fully supported and will display correctly across all generated letters.
Merge fields
You can include Law App merge fields in your letterhead and they will populate when a letter is generated — just as they do in any other template. This is useful for things like the firm’s ABN, a reference number, or any other field you want to appear consistently on every letter without being typed manually.
If your letterhead includes merge fields, note what each field is and where it appears when you submit. Our team will confirm they are set up correctly.
Images and logos
Submit logos and images in JPEG or PNG format, embedded directly into the Word file. Do not link to external image files — linked images will not appear when documents are generated or exported to PDF.
PNG with a transparent background is preferred for logos, as it avoids unwanted white boxes behind the image when placed on a coloured or textured header background. A JPEG is fine if your logo has a white background and your letterhead background is also white.
How to submit
Email your completed .docx letterhead file to accounts@lawsupport.com.au with support@lawsupport.com.au copied. Include a note if you have different letterheads for different practice areas or offices.
Our team will review the file for compatibility and let you know if any adjustments are needed before it is loaded into your system.
