To ensure a smooth transition to Law App, itโs important to prepare your financial data ahead of your go-live date. This guide outlines the key financial steps to take before migration.
๐ Target completion: By your nominated cutover date (typically the end of the month).
๐น Clean Up Estimated and Draft Bills
- Finalise or delete all estimated/draft bills
- All estimates will be treated as final bills upon conversion, if you aren’t sure undo the bill.
- A clean billing history ensures smoother financial reporting in Law App.
๐น Disbursements & Debtors
- Write off any debtors or disbursements you do not plan to carry forward.
- This is the ideal time to remove aged balances that are unlikely to be recovered.
๐น Bank Reconciliations
- Complete all prior month bank reconciliations.
- Ensure everything is in balance to support a clean month-end in your new system.
๐น Reconcile Key Financial Reports
Confirm the following reports are aligned in your current system:
- โ Debtors Trial Balance matches the Debtors General Ledger on the Balance Sheet
- โ Disbursements Outstanding report matches the Disbursement General Ledger
- โ Trial Balance or Balance Sheet is fully reconciled
๐น Clear & Archive Old Files
- If a file needs to be closed and its balances cleared, do this before go-live.
- Reducing carryover data helps performance and clarity in your new system.
๐น Optional: Chart of Accounts Review
Law App provides a standard chart of accounts designed for legal practices. However:
- If you’d like to merge or remove unused GL codes, now is the time.
- Simply mark these on your current chart and share with our team during conversion.
๐ Final Notes
Weโre here to help ensure your system is clean, balanced, and ready to go.
You can still go live even if some of these steps arenโt complete.
This process is about starting strong โ not about perfection.
Remove or finalise all estimate bills: Draft or estimated bills must either be marked as final or deleted.
Archive inactive files: Where possible, avoid migrating outdated, inactive, or closed files โ this reduces clutter in your new system and improves performance.
